Basic Obedience Class is for age 10 weeks and older, they are never too old to learn. Your pet must be current on vaccinations for age, including Rabies, Distemper/Parvo Combo, and Bordetella. Week one covers jumping, barking, biting, chewing, importance of praise and motivation as well as the timing of corrections. Basic manners, safety, and leash walking are the focus of the 6 weeks. We will talk about different collars, their proper fit and uses. The 6 week class is based on the American Kennel Clubs Canine Good Citizen Program. Week 1 is about 2 hours, after that each class will be about 1 hour.

The class will teach you how to train your dog to accomplish the following………

Accepting a Friendly Stranger, Sitting Politely for Petting, Appearance and Grooming, Out for a Walk (walking on a loose lead) Walking Through a Crowd, Sit and Down on Command and Staying in Place, Coming When Called, Reaction to Another Dog, Reaction to Distractions, Supervised Separations.

This is a progressive class, building each week on what you have accomplished the previous week. We also introduce the dogs to some beginner agility equipment for fun, bonding and confidence building. We perform the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test on week 6, and you are given a report card. Classes are $200.00 for 6 weekly sessions.

The team may not use a treats, pinch collar or harness. They should have progressed beyond needing this type of collar. A flat buckle, chain or martingale is only types acceptable. This class builds on skills you and your dog have already mastered and helps you to build a stronger team by focusing on many distractions and scenarios. Some of the weeks we meet in public. We challenge you and your dog in areas such as food distractions, recalls with distractions, walking 20 feet from your dog while they are in a sit/down stay, greetings with stranger carrying objects, waiting at doors, turns, back/behinds, waiting at your side in a mock transaction at a counter, doing a rise followed by "off and sit" all while using a very loose leash. We always encourage praise and positivity. ALWAYS!

Registration and vaccination records are required in person when registering for class. Class fees are not refundable or transferable. We do not hold class spots waiting on shot records or fees to be paid.
